Introduction

You have come to France to study. The following personal items are exempt from customs duties at import:

  • Clothing and accessories.
  • Educational materials.
  • Used household effects representing the usual furnishings for a student's room and intended for personal use during the period of study.
     

Relief from customs duties and tax may be granted at least once per academic year.
 

Documents to provide to French Customs

You must provide the following documents to French Customs:

French Customs will give you:

  • A stamped copy of the inventory.
  • A free circulation card for your belongings, which can be drawn up at your request.


Specific provisions for vehicles:

A vehicle may be imported under temporary suspension of taxes and import duties if it has been given a standard registration number in the non-EU country of origin. The sole act of crossing the border shall constitute a customs declaration of temporary admission.

You may use your vehicle for the duration of your studies in France. At any time, you must be able to show French Customs your proof of enrolment at the French institution where you are studying.
