Buy online in the UK after Brexit

Since 1 January 2021, the United Kingdom has left the European Union.

Online purchases shipped from that country shall be subject to the customs import rules and formalities applicable to postal parcels shipped from a third country to the common market.

Customs formalities on arrival of the package

Upon arrival of the package in France, the carrier carries out customs formalities with the filing of a declaration and the payment of duties and taxes if necessary. Once cleared, the package will be delivered to you by the same carrier.

Also, the delivery times can be lengthened for essentially logistical reasons. Unless checked, the customs services validate the declarations in a few minutes. If you have questions about the status of your package, contact your carrier first.

Additional fees to be paid

In addition to the shipping costs, you will have to pay additional costs. These are customs fees:

French VAT

Most often at a rate of 20%.

Customs duties

If the value of the consignment exceeds 150 euros, as well as for products that do not originate in the United Kingdom or the European Union, customs duties are to be paid among the customs fees.

If the product is of English origin and you have a proof of origin, there will be no customs duty thanks to the agreements between the United Kingdom and the European Union. Ask your seller and check that the origin of the goods is mentioned on the invoice.

From 1 July 2026, a temporary customs duty of €3 per category of article shall apply to goods imported into the European Union in consignments with an intrinsic value not exceeding €150, in accordance with Council Regulation (EU) 2026/382 of 11 February 2026 amending Regulation (EC) No 1186/2009 (Regulation - EU - 2026/382 - EN - EUR-Lex).

Application fee for the provision of services charged by the carrier

Read carefully the General Terms and Conditions (GTC or « Conditions of Use and Sale » in English) of the website to check whether customs duties and VAT are included in the selling price or are extra and will have to be paid upon receipt of the package. Generally, these costs are at your expense and billed together upon receipt of the package by the carrier.

Beware of scams:
The attention of users is drawn to the sending of fraudulent emails, headed by the French customs and requesting the payment of taxes in the context of the reception of a postal parcel via the online purchase of a PIN code. These are phishing attempts, be vigilant.
